| I'm a Long-Tongued Bat, one of the smallest of the bats. In some ways I have a similar job to be a bee or a hummingbird. My nose might look long and funny, but, hey, I have to keep my tongue somewhere! |
| Like other bats I fly at night looking for food. But my food is the nectar from cactus and agave flowers which I slurp up with my long tongue. It only takes a second to visit each flower. That makes me one busy bat. |
| When I drink from a flower, the flower's pollen brushes onto my fur. Because of me, all the flowers I visit get a little bit of pollen from each other. They get fertilized, and I get all the nectar I can drink. What a sweet deal! |
| Pinocchio was a one-man show Till I flew into town The nose on me is a sight to see, But my tongue will take the crown. |
| I get myself in trouble Every time I sip a snack 'Cause the cactus swears I make a face Behind his spiny back. |
| I'm really quite a gardener Though I haven't got green thumbs As you can see, I'm no honeybee Nor a tiny bird that hums. |
