Oxpecker in Shia Kijima Chronicle (2020 October 2nd Games)

| Yellow-Billed Oxpecker |
The oxpeckers are two species of bird which make up the family Buphagidae. The oxpeckers were formerly usually treated as a subfamily, Buphaginae, within the starling family, Sturnidae, but molecular phylogenetic studies have consistently shown that they form a separate lineage that is basal to the sister clades containing the Sturnidae and the Mimidae (mockingbirds, thrashers, and allies). Oxpeckers are endemic to the savanna of Sub-Saharan Africa.
Both the English and scientific names arise from their habit of perching on large mammals (both wild and domesticated) such as cattle, zebras, impalas, hippopotamuses, or rhinoceroses, and giraffes, eating ticks, small insects, botfly larvae, and other parasites. The behaviour of oxpeckers towards large mammals was previously thought to be an example of mutualism, though recent research suggests the relationship is parasitic in nature.

| Hello there. I'm an Oxpecker, also known as a Tick Bird. Gee, how was I ever lucky enough to get two such attractive names? I'm about 7 or 8 inches long and I'm basically a vampire. |
| I spend most of my time perched on big animals like rhinos and giraffes. I look for bloodsucking ticks on their hides and then I eat the ticks so I can get the blood that's in them. Gross, huh? Sorry. |
| Although I do enjoy eating the blood-filled ticks, my special beak is designed to remove blood and scar junk from the animal's wound. It causes the wound the heal slower. But so far, nobody's complaining. |
| I'll groom your fur and keep it fresh Just hope that I don't bite your flesh. |
| Most vampires fear the hot sun's ray But this one looks for its prey by day. |
| My meal goes hand-in-hand with tock Don't look for me in a cuckoo clock. |
