Black Rhinoceros

The black rhinoceros or hook-lipped rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) is a species of rhinoceros, native to eastern and southern Africa including Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Eswatini, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Although the rhinoceros is referred to as black, its colours vary from brown to grey.

I'm Black Rhinoceros. I can be 14 feet long and weigh 4 tons. That's pretty heavy for someone who just eats leaves and twigs. I have a prehensile upper lip, which means that I can use it like a hand to grab stuff. Especially food.

The famous horns on my snout are made of something called keratin. That's the same material that hair and fingernails are made of. My horn is sort of like a giant fingernail!

I have lousy eyesight but a great sense of charge which makes it easy to find our communal enemies. That's right, we all leaves it in the same place! The heaps are 20 feet long and 4 deep! Don't try this at home!

My horns protect my fragile face As I smell my way from place to place.

My mouth's like a hand, my horn a nail I wish I could use them both to read braille.

It is  monotypic  within the genus  Choeronycteris . [2]  The species is found in  El Salvador ,  Guatemala ,  Honduras ,  Mexico , and the  United States . I'm a Long-Tongued Bat, one of the smallest of the bats. In some ways I have a similar job to be a bee or a hummingbird. My nose might look long and funny, but, hey, I have to keep my tongue somewhere! Like other bats I fly at night looking for food. But my food is the nectar from cactus and agave flowers which I slurp up with my long tongue. It only takes a second to visit each flower. That makes me one busy bat. When I drink from a flower, the flower's pollen brushes onto my fur. Because of me, all the flowers I visit get a little bit of pollen from each other....
